The Department of Cell and Neurobiology strives toward excellence through USC’s interdisciplinary neuroscience research programs. The department’s goal is to increase research productivity in collaboration with neurology, neurosurgery, and psychiatry. Cell and Neurobiology’s Howard Hughes Medical Institute Research Resources Morphological Microscopic and DNA Analysis Cores provide essential research tools for neuroscience faculty. The faculty also contributes teaching and research to the Program in Biomedical and Biological Sciences (PIBBS) and the USC Neuroscience Program.

Disease-oriented research, bridging basic and clinical disciplines, investigates inherited or acquired disorders in vision, liver metabolism, and endocrinology. The challenge is to weld interdisciplinary activities into a conduit for transferring basic science discoveries into advances in technology that support clinical innovation.
