The Division of Infectious Diseases (ID) provides care and consultation in all the major venues staffed by the Department of Medicine.
LAC+USC Medical Center
The Division runs a very active consultation service. About 1,500 new consultations per year are seen. We estimate that each patient requires about four follow-up visits. The Division is also responsible for the medical operations of the Rand Schrader Clinic (the AIDS Clinic, also known as 5-P-21) located on the corner of Mission and Zonal. The AIDS Clinic features our faculty as primary care providers and supervisors of physician assistants, not as attendings for residents and interns. Currently, some 3,800-4,000 patient visits per month are being recorded. Finally, we also operate an outpatient clinic staffed by our faculty and fellows. That clinic records approximately some 950 visits annually.
USC/Norris Cancer Hospital (Norris) and USC University Hospital (USCUH)
The Division has one fellow and one faculty attending assigned at all times to cover the consultative and inpatient services at Norris and USCUH. Some 450 new patient consultations per year occur at those institutions, with about five follow-up visits per patient. In addition to the above service, Dr. Paul Holtom works year round on the orthopedic infection service at USCUH.
Ambulatory Health Center (AHC)
Dr. Geiseler has two regularly scheduled half days per week at the AHC. This translates into about 250 visits per year. Other faculty also see patients at the AHC when appropriate.
