Department of
Preventive Medicine

The Division of Epidemiology has made important contributions to numerous studies of the prevalence, causes and prevention strategies for many chronic diseases.

Partnering with molecular biologists in the USC/Norris Cancer Center and the USC Institute for Genetic Medicine, the division’s efforts in molecular epidemiology continue to grow. Embracing the new tools of the molecular revolution has helped Department researchers identify forms of human genes associated with higher risks of prostate cancer, study prevention strategies in women at high risk of breast cancer and research the genetics of familial colorectal cancer.
