The Office of Diversitys goal is to recruit, retain and increase the number of minority students enrolled in the Keck School and to provide counsel to minority medical students as well as to high school and undergraduate students. The office was established more than 30 years ago through a grant from the Josiah Macy Foundation.
The counseling offered by the office is designed to provide
psychosocial and academic support to help students adjust
to medical school, assist students in the acquisition of housing
and other services, and engage students in inter-ethnic community
activities.
The office offers a four-week Summer Bridge Program for minority
medical students prior to beginning their first year of classes.
The program orients students to the campus and community,
and introduces them to the academic coursework of incoming
medical students.
